Sal seems to admire people that take life as an adventure, and he desires to be one of them, which is the reason for him wanting to go West. He wants to see the country and enjoy life on the road. Sal wants to go a road that Dean has taken, the life free with no boundaries. Sal says so in the quote about living life with no direction. Dean is an example of all this, and it is why Sal is drawn to Dean.
The reason is that Sal he is so committed to society and he does not need to leave his safe zone until he meats Dean. Who is mad, adventures and goes his one way. Sal uses the "power" of this madness, freedom, he sees an opotunitey to see the US, and he goes for it. Sal is captivated with his mad friends that make him go and advancers out side his safe zone.
In search of a good story Sal goes west to re-establish himself as a new person. Upon meeting Dean Sal realizes he needs to escape from the norms of society but more importantly the limitations he puts on himself. A wild adventure seeker, Dean has everything Sal wants. By literally following in Dean's footsteps Sal is allowed to experience the thrill of risk taking like Dean to better himself as a whole. By doing so Sal is pushed outside his comfort zone to experience things from a new perspective of freedom to be who you are, and to be mad and desirous.
In my opinion, Sal is very intrigued by the adventurous and mad personality that Dean has proven to have. Because of this, Sal decides to take up the offer to go out west. On this adventure to go out west, Sal meets many different people from hitchhiking who are also on adventures. Throughout the trip he constantly admires his surroundings. He notices the different scents of the air as he passes through many city’s in the U.S. He savors every moment as a moment to appreciate life and the open road. He views the west as a place of opportunity and new beginnings. He truly has the mind of a writer always noticing the different people and scenery wherever he goes. Just like it says in the quote, the only people for Sal are the mad ones. The ones who are willing to go out on a limb and take a chance. And that is the kind of person he is determined to be. He sees this in Dean and is greatly influenced by him which is why he is going out west in the first place.
I think that before we met Sal his life was very routine. He did the smae thing over and over again, which is why he always dreamed of "going west". When he met Dean he saw that being adventerous could be done and have a great time of life. Dean lives his life the way he wants to and Sal admires that. Sal sees Dean almost as role model, he wants to emulate Deans freedom and be like him, with him.
Sal and dean descide to go west because they want to spice up their life and stop going down the ordinary boring road that they are constantly. It is symbolic the roads that they are are boring like their life but the west is exciting and the road there will be exciting and offer them new oppertunity and they will have to overcome a lot of obstacles but it will be for the best. Sal wants to be like dean because he is free and does what he wants. He wans to live a live without direction or rules and that is what dean is doing
Sal decides to head west to follow Dean and all his other friends. Sal follows Dean because Dean is wild and all these things happen to him so Sal thinks if he hangs around he will find inspiration to write because he feels when your around Dean things and people are just drawn to him and Sal need stuff to happen in his life that are exciting so he can write more books.
Sal decides to go west because he wants to experiance a different lifestyle that he was living before. Also Dean is from the west and Sal looks up to Dean. Dean lives a daring on the edge lifestyle that Sal admires. He follows in Deans lead and tries to be a person he is not.
When Sal decided to adventure west he leaves behind his conservative lifestyle of living with his "aunt" and not taking many risks. He is interested in Deans sense of being reckless and lack of boundaries,using him for guidance and new writing ideas.
Sal decides to go west because before he meets Dean his life was stagnant and lonely because of the split with his life. When Dean comes he likes the madness he brings and his outlook on life and sees his potential as a writer. Sal wants to head west becasue of the passion, youth and excitement it holds. Dean wants to hit the road to improve his writing skills and hit life head on so he can get material to write about. He lives life on the edge and thats wat draws Sal to him.

The relationship between Sal and Dean is a balancing act where each gets want they want and gives to the other. Dean makes Sal go on the road because Sal wants to follow him. Sal wants to see where life takes Dean and what kinds of opportunities arise for him.
Sal Paradise’s dream of going west is a manifestation of his desire to escape his life; which has recently fallen to peaces. This desire is ignited when Sal encounters Dean who embodies Sal’s desire for a change of pace. Sal leaves on an adventure to follow in Dean’s footsteps for he wishes to understand Dean’s lifestyle. While on his journey Sal finds that these people while uneducated and uncouth are much truer and worthier than those of the elite. Unlike conventional America which has become obsessed with staying under the radar and making a quick buck, these people have rejected the corporate world and live dollar to dollar in the style which they find natural. He describes them as fireworks, bright flashes in the sky which are beautiful but last only a short time. Sal’s fascination with these people and his desire to emulate them has led him on this journey.
