Time stops. He's filling empty space with the substance of our lives . . .

"Time stops. He's filling empty space with the substance of our lives, confessions of his bellybottom strain, remembrance of ideas, rehashes of old blowing. he has to blow across bridges and come back and do it with such infinite feeling soul-exploratory for the tune of the moment that everybody knows it's not the tune that counts, but 'IT--' Dean could go no further; he was sweating telling about it."

From this point of inspiration (or should I say perspiration?), I want you to leap, creatively, into the music of your life, creating a soundtrack for your life. A play list, 5-10 songs in length. Not the actual music files, just a list of the songs that you would want to play or listen to as you travel, as you move around campus. As you live. So many of us now move about campus constantly plugged in to our iPods. We remove them only reluctantly and even have conversations while the music continues to play.

Once you've created your play list, I'd like you to talk, in detail, about 3 of the songs. Talk about the lyrics, quote the lyrics, tell us why they speak to you, why they matter to you, what they say to you. Why does this song or piece of music move you? In what way? "It's got mad beats" might be a true statement, but I want a little bit more. Dig deeper! "Dig IT!"

Due Wednesday, October 3rd, by class.

My playlist:

"The Last Song" by All American Rejects. This song is about leaving someone behind and reminding them of a past relationship. The relationship went bad but the singer just wants to remember it and speak about what went wrong. He uses this reasoning to explain why he's leaving to start new somewhere else.

"Is This Love" by Bob Marley

"Go With The Flow" by Queens of the StoneAge. This song is about being relax, don't let stuff bother you, just flow through life. I really like the lyrics "I want something good to die for, to make it beautiful to live."

"Otherside" by Red Hot Chilli Peppers. First off this song has great guitar. I listen to this song when i am going through tough times. It helps to remind me that there is another side to life for which anger can be taken to. The words "i don't believe its fair, slit my throat its all I ever..." express the anger a person can feel at time. then "take it on the otherside" expresses that there is always a solution.

"Way Away" by Yellowcard

"The Phrase that Pays" by The Academy Is

"When You Were Young" by The Killers

"Get Free" by The Vines. I love the way the signer basically yells and screams throughout the song. The song is about living freely and wild, and to screw people and their oopinions and to just be yourself. Its about doing what you want. "Imma get free, Imma get free, Imma get free, ride into the sun." Its a short loud song of crazyiness.

SONG LIST 1)Redneck Yatch Club- Craig Morgan 2)Never Wanted Nothing More- Kenny Chesney 3)Dream Big- Ryan Shupe 4)Mountains- Lonestar 5)What If I Stumble- Danielle Chagnon 6)The Road and The Radio-Kenny Chesney 7)If You're Going Through Hell- Rodney Atikins 8)Nothin' Better to Do- LeAnn Rimes 9)Summertime- Kenny Chesney 10)Find Out Who Your Friends Are- Tracy Lawrence

The song “Never Wanted Nothing More” by Kenny Chesney is a down to earth song about being happy with what you have. “Well, I’m what I am and I’m what I’m not and I’m sure happy with what I’ve got I live and love and laugh a lot and that’s all I need.” The reason I like this song a lot is because it talks about being happy about the simplest things in life and not the possessions that you have in it and just being happy about life itself and not wanting anything else in life except to be loved.

The song “Dream Big” by Ryan Shupe is an about dreaming big and going after what you want and not letting other people stop you from reaching your dream. “When you cry, be sure to dry your eyes, ‘Cause better days are sure to come. And when you smile, be sure to smile wide, and don’t let them know that they have won. And when you walk, walk with pride, and don’t show the hurt inside, because the pain will soon be gone. And when you dream, dream big, as big as the ocean, blue. ‘Cause when you dream it might come true. But when you dream, dream big.” The reason I like this song is because it is a song that can pick you up when you’re having a bad day. Also because it talks about taking the bad and the negative and turning it into to good and ignoring other people and going after your dream.

The song “The Road and the Radio” by Kenny Chesney is a song about going out on the road to find out who you are and to looking towards the future. “Ain’t nothing out here but me, the road, and the radio lookin’ for an exit, and a song that I might know countin’ down the memories, addin’ up the miles searching for a feeling, that I ain’t felt in a while. Clarity and inspiration happiness is a destination, that’s hard to find it may take some time in my mind there’s something more and I’ll open up a brand new door and find the strength to close the ones I left behind I’ll get there leaning on some friends I know the road and the radio.” The reason I pick this song is because it remained me of the book “On the Road” because in it Sal is searching for the same thing. It talks about looking towards the future and forgetting about the past and getting help from friends to get the strength to go towards the future.

"Changes"-Tupac- In my opinion this is one of the most powerful songs ever written by an artist, it relates to everyday life and sitiuations that we encounter through lifes journey. The artists stresses to the listener that we as a people have to start making chages in our lifestyles in order to be happy as a society. This is something i firmly believe in. In the song Tupac says. "Lets change the way we eat, lets change the way we eat, and lets change the way we treat eachother, you see the old was wasnt workin so its on us to do what we gotta do...to survive." In this song he talks about global issues in the middle east, and many other controversial subjects that i find very appealing. I can relate to tupac a great deal in this song because i am an avid supporter of changes in life that can help us become better people.

Eagles- "take it easy" This song is deffinantley one of my favorites. The eagles always seem to bring out the more relaxed and layed back side of me that many have told me i have. Usually i am a very low key person, who goes with the flow. when i am not playing sports, i enjoy easing my tension and frustration by litening to the eagles and this song in particular. It always gets me into a good mood and basically makes me want to take it easy.

AC/DC-“thunderstruck”-This tune brings out the animal that is in me. Before going onto the field of battle I take a moment to get my mind right by playing this song. It gets my adrenaline flowing and my juices pumping. Whenever I hear this song, I always get excited and its usually before a game so I get excited to hit people. This song brings out the determination and the drive that is in my competitive nature. It makes me want to perform to the best of my ability. The side of me that wants to take out all of my frustration and emotion out on someone else. It makes me fuel all of my negative aggression in a more positive way.

Kenny Chesney-"summertime"

Bob Marley-"Jammin"

Bob Dylan- "The Times They are a Changin," It makes me think that life will not always stay the same. LIfe takes quick changes and new things appear. This song by Bob Dylan gives me the feeling of staying with life.

"Blowin in the Wind"- This song reminds me of how life treats us. He says "how many roads must a man walk down before he calls himself a man?" I've always thought of this question when listening to this song and I come up with as many roads life gives us.

Bob Marley- "Don't Worry Be Happy," This song I use to relax me when tense situations of life keep me down. I like the way how he views life of just be happy and dont worry about everything. It is a good philosophy of a road you can experience in life.

Brian Paisley- "Alcohol"

Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Snow (hey oh)"

"some beach" by blake shelton
Sometimes I listen to this song when I get angry at something or someone."some beach, somewhere, theres nowhere to go and you've got all day to get there." It really calms me down and reminds me not to worry about the little things that bother you, when at the end of the day it doesnt matter.

"Its my life"- Bon Jovi
This song is saying to forget what others are thinking or saying and to just to live your life the way that you want to. "Its my life its now or never, I ain't gonna live forever." You shouldnt just let life pass you by because before you know it its gone and you dont want to have any regrets in the end.

"Fire and Rain"- james taylor.
I listen to this song sometimes if im sad. "I've seen fire and I've seen rain, I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end, I've seen lonley times when i could not find a friend." This song is a reaction to the death of a loved one and refers to the good and bad aspects of life. But in the end he needs gods guidance to get by and see his love in the end.

"Never gonna feel like that again"
Kenny chesney
"I'll be missing you"
Puff daddy

"Belief"-John Mayer-because its about fighting for the right to believe. "Belief is a beautiful armor But makes for the heaviest sword Like punching under water
You never can hit who you're trying for" is one of my favorite lines because you can either chose to stand up for what you believe or let your beliefs subside.

"Love and Memories"-O.A.R

"Mr.Brightside"-The Killers

"Home"-Michael Buble-because this song talks about life and its adventures and even though your surrounded by so many people you can still feel alone. This song to me is about remembering where you came from and with these memories of home you can move on in life. Home the constant that helps you not get lost within the crowd. Not to loose yourself when you move on.

"Boston"-Augustana

"Brushfire Fairytales"-Jack Johnson-this song reminds me to slow down because if you are in a constant rush all the time you might miss out on alot of things that you could have enjoyed in life. When things are hectic and crazy its a nice relaxing song that tells you to take deep breaths and let yourself unwind.
"Slow down everyone
You're moving too fast
Frames can't catch you when
You're moving like that"

"Don't Stop Believin'"-Journey

"Whirlwind"-Dispatch

"Better Man"-Pearl Jam

Playlist: I Go Back- Kenny Chesney
Lazy Eye- Silversun Pickups
Something More- Sugarland
Beautiful Disaster- Jon McLaughlin
Soundtrack for Our Movie- Mae

The song “I Go Back” by Kenny Chesney is the perfect song for anyone at anytime. The lyrics can apply to anyone no matter if they like the style of music (country) or not. It is all about hearing a song that takes you back to maybe the first time you heard it or to a time you heard and were experiencing something you’ll never forget. In the song he looks back on his life: “Watching summer fade to fall, growing up too fast and I do recall, I go back.” Every person can relate to this, thinking back on good times and almost feeling as though you are there all over again, feeling the happiness and joy.

The song “Something More” by Sugarland, also country, is upbeat. It talks about going through the boring day to day life most people lead and how there has “gotta be something more,” to put it quite simply. In the song, the woman is realizing how dull her life has become and decides to quit her job and find whatever it is she feels is missing. She says, “Some believe in destiny and some believe in fate. I believe that happiness is something we create, best believe that I’m not gonna wait.” The song puts our worries in perspective and reminds us that sometime the things we think are so urgent and stressful can be pushed aside, just for a second, so that we can enjoy and live our life to the fullest.

“Summertime” by Kenny Chesney is the ultimate song for, what else but, summer. Besides the very obvious reason being the title, the song is a list of the activities and feelings that bring us so much joy during the summer season and point out the little things we tend to take for granted in the summer. Kenny describes summer as “…a long lost friend you haven’t seen in a while, you can’t help but smile.” Summer is a joyous, spontaneous time of year that brings with it warm weather, new acquaintances, fun and surprises.
